Nowhere Fast

My grandpa swung a hammer
And built half of my hometown
Stayed alive just long enough
To watch outsiders tear it all down
He said that's the way it goes,
Nowhere fast
My hometown felt like the whole wide world
But it got smaller every day
Till downtown became one big vacant lot
And my last name won't earn me no pay
Ain't that the way it goes?
So in the morning I'll be leaving
I can't stand it anymore
You know as long as I'm still breathing
I'll be walking out that door
I'm gonna take it to the highway
'Cause all the good things never last
And if I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere fast
Nowhere fast
Got the devil on my shoulder
And a voice ringing in my ear
Saying the only thing worse than losing ground
Is giving into your own fear
Ain't that the way it goes?
So in the morning I'll be leaving
I can't stand it anymore
You know as long as I'm still breathing
I'll be walking out that door
I'm gonna take it to the highway
'Cause all the good things never last
And if I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere fast
Everyone gets a second chance
Lord knows I've needed three or four
But it don't matter, I've got no shame
I might be needing just one more
In the morning I'll be leaving
I can't stand it anymore
You know as long as I'm still breathing
I'll be walking out that door
I'm gonna take it to the highway
'Cause all the good things never last
And if I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere fast
And if I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere fast
And if I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere fast
I'm going nowhere fast
I'm going nowhere fast
